Welcome to Alaska Media Road Show

On October 26 - 28, 2008
we invite you to explore Alaska story opportunities
and future editorial needs at the
Seventh Annual Alaska Media Road Show!

Over the past six years, the Alaska Travel Industry Association (AlaskaTIA) has made a name for itself with its signature media event, Alaska Media Road Show. In 2008, Alaska is going on the road back to The Biltmore in Santa Barbara (CA) welcoming journalists from across North America to learn more about Alaska and kick off the celebration of Alaska’s 50th anniversary of statehood.

Alaska Media Road Show brings journalists and Alaska tourism contacts from both the public and private sector together for pre-scheduled editorial briefings. You will be able to review the partners’ profiles and schedule appointments with those whom you wish to meet. Meals and events during Alaska Media Road Show will provide an opportunity to meet informally with participants and will enhance the networking and social opportunities.

Alaska embodies the essence of our most noble ambitions: exploration, discovery, independence and determination. Ours was a bootstrap scramble for survival. Our pride is based on a long struggle to get where we are today, and our sense of place stems from the natural beauty we awake to each day. There is much to explore in Alaska. As consumers become increasingly jaded to marketing gimmicks and flashy campaigns, Alaska offers truth -- a big, bold land, the mere existence of which provides peace of mind to Americans starved for wilderness.

Alaska is wonderful in its nuance and peculiar in its contrasts. It will pique your imagination and leave you inspired, not to mention curious about the seemingly average people that call this corner of the country home. Don’t be fooled – Alaskans choose this place for a reason, and you will never meet weirder, more wonderful and eccentric people.

Of course, there is a lot of “normal” life to be explored. We have great restaurants, unbeatable views, shops, flowers, live jazz outdoors in the summer and a hodgepodge of cultures that span thousands of years and the flags of four nations. We ski to work, bike the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and see moose on our daily commutes. We love our Fed Ex hub, our access to international destinations, our quality of life.

As anticipation builds for Alaska’s official 50th birthday on Jan. 3, 2009, the editorial opportunities to highlight the culture, history and adventure available in the “Last Frontier” are endless.

Whether to reconnect with family and friends or disconnect from the digital pulse of modern life, you are invited to explore what Alaska has to offer. When you register online for Alaska Media Road Show, you will have the opportunity to provide a short, personal biography, which will be available to Road Show partners. The information you submit on the registration form will be used to create a printed media directory to assist our partners in identifying you as someone with whom there may be common interest. Once your registration has been processed, you will be given a username and password to allow you to edit your profile information.
